Vineyard planted in 1933, the soil of the dry grown Belford vineyard is light and sandy - almost talcum powder consistency for the top 50cm. the most northern of all the Tyrrell's Wines Hunter Valley vineyards.
The vintage was a late spring which led into cooler conditions throughout the November and early December with some rain. This led to above average crop levels which ripened well with the warmer weather in January.
After a relatively cool fermentation the wine spent a minimal time on yeast lees before being bottled early to maintain its freshness, no oak fermentation of maturation.
This wine has a fuller palate than is commonly associated with the Belford vineyard with intense fruit characters and a soft, clean acid finish.
