There has always been a healthy debate as to the moon's influence on wine and vines based partly on the fact that the earth and plant life have rhythms in respect to their position to the sun, moon and stars.
The good farmers have always used the phases of the moon to predict the weather and to plan when to plant and when to pick. Three lunar phases after harvest is also about the best time for a top red to have it's first clarifying rack. Whilst there is no scientific proof as to the benefits of this, there is an eminently practical side effect of waiting for the clear light of the moon (whether full or new).
