Recently it has been discovered that Pinot Noir is very likely the great grandparent of Shiraz. This 'parentage' helps explains what winemakers have known for centuries: the varieties are synergistic. In the Middle Ages these wines were described as "nourissant, theologique, morbifuge" - a hard phrase to translate but which literally means "nourishing, theological, apt to chase out illness". This wine exhibits classic aroma and flavour of Pinot Noir together with pepper and spice from the 10% of Shiraz and the palate is soft, rich and supple. Whilst suitable for immediate drinking, this wine will be at its best with additional cellaring. An ideal accompaniment to duck and white meat dishes, serve at room temperature.
