95 Points - Neal Beckett
Croix's striking, luminous Corton-Charlemagne comes from two small, high sited parcels totalling only 0.25 hectare that are both in Le Charlemagne. These plots--alternatively west and north facing on both sides of Le Charlemagne--were planted in 1984/1985 and 1988/1989 and the vines have been organically managed since 2008. The 2016, vinified entirety in used barrels, is a pure, driven, pulpy textured wine with lovely, bright flesh and salty precision. In short there's a swish of pulpy stone fruit and preserved lemon on the palate, which tapers to a chalky, structured finish. Love the sense of restrained power and mouthwatering tension on offer here. A stunning white.
"This shows proper restraint on the nose, but also great harmony and purity, fully reflected on the palate, where there is great scope but not great weight. A magnificent wine, but one with real scintillation as well. Pedigree, power, promise." - Neal Beckett, The World of Fine Wine issue 59
