Charles Melton Nine Popes
Venerable Shiraz vines and ancient dry grown 'bush' Grenache are amongst the Barossa Valley's richest resources. These two varieties along with Mataro (Mourvedre), which is added to give a spicy complexity, make up Nine Popes cepage. The Nine Popes is almost equal parts Shiraz and Grenache with just over 3% Mataro. Older French barriques have been used to age the wine "sur lie" for 24 months to allow the Grenache perfumes to shine and to richen and enhance Grenache's traditional plushness and sweetness. Cellared well this wine has a potential of a minimum 10-20 years Crushed, fermented and maturd at Krondof Road winey and vineyards.
